Warriors Begin 2011 Season with a bang; Win Big Shots Championship
The FCI Warriors began the 2011 season in impression fashion; going undefeated this past weekend and winning the 17U Blue Championship of the Big Shots Atlanta Tournament.
The Warriors opened with a blowout 71-36 victory over the Dalton Fire. The Warriors took a big lead early and never looked back. Each of the thirteen players on the roster scored in the convincing win. Later that evening; the Warriors pulled out an exciting 73-70 victory over a talented Carolina Hornets (NC) squad in the Quarterfinals. Vantrail Commings (26 points and 13 rebounds) and Richard Kelly (23 points) both had terrific performances.
In the Final Four, the Warriors pulled out another dramatic win, this time over the Atlanta Elite by the score of 58-57. Vantrail Commings led the way with another double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) and John Depalma steped up big with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The Championship Game had the Warriors matched up with Big Time Athletics squad out of New Jersey. The Warriors came out strong and increased the lead to double digits with 5 minutes left in the first half. The team never really looked back, and won in a surprisingly easy fashion by the score of 71-53. Richard Kelly contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Fineto "Andy" Lunguana had 12 points and 4 assists. Point Guard Jeremy Pressley capped off a good overall weekend where he averaged close to 10 ppg and led the team in assists.
